Future Farmer Program

Feb 5, 2024

WWOOF is committed to assisting the next generation of farmers to get a head start through educational farming experiences and to increasing the diversity of farm operators in the USA.

  • For 2024, forty financial awards are available to WWOOFers committed to becoming farmers.
  • The award is intended to help fund a WWOOF farm visit in the USA this summer.
  • The program provides WWOOFers with mentorship, practical farm skills, financial support and an agroecology certification.
  • Future Farmers spend one or two months at a WWOOF host farm while pursuing an online Agroecology Certification Course with our partner, Multinational Exchange for Sustainable Agriculture (MESA).
  • To be considered, participants must either be enrolled in an agricultural studies program, have a strong background in farming, or other qualifying experience that shows  commitment to becoming an organic farmer.
  • Awards are for $2,000 for the one-month introductory program, and $4,000 for the two-month advanced program, with half awarded upon arrival at the host farm and the remainder awarded upon successful completion of the program.
  • Awards are spent at the discretion of each Future Farmer to support expenses incurred while participating including reimbursement for travel-related expenses.
  • The Future Farmer Program is only open to U.S. residents and priority enrollment will be given to socially disadvantaged participants as defined by the USDA.

The application period for the 2024 Future Farmer Program is now closed. Please check back in February 2025 for more information on next year’s program!
