Kayla: Kayla is a first-generation farmer. She is originally from Seattle and currently resides in South Puget Sound. She spent the past 16 years serving in the U.S. Army as a medic and then a nurse. After tours in Alaska, Africa, and Iraq, she decided she was ready to settle down and pursue her passion for sustainable agriculture. Kayla has volunteered and interned on various crop, livestock, and dairy farms and she is excited to see where WWOOFing will take her next. Kayla’s favorite crops to grow are Cucurbits (pumpkins, winter squash, gourds), so wherever she goes she’ll find a way to grow those!

TaLisa: Meet TaLisa, is the force behind Honey G’s Medicinal Herbs & Mushroom urban farm: a former Air Force Reserves pharmacy technician turned visionary urban farmer. With roots in Little Rock, Arkansas, and a childhood steeped in construction, this entrepreneur knows a thing or two about building from the ground up—literally. After serving in the military, where she gained critical insights into the flaws of our food and medicine systems, she took a bold leap into the world of sustainable living. The COVID-19 pandemic was a wake-up call, emphasizing the importance of self-reliance and the power of growing our own food. Alongside her supportive husband and their three children, ages 16, 10, and 7, they embarked on a mission to not just farm, but to educate and inspire.

Derringer: Hi! I love thinking about food systems and how humans participate in the ecology of a particular space. The dream is to one day steward a piece of land that provides food for people and sanctuary for animals. I’m happiest when I can build a well-thought out system that requires little effort to maintain.

With a background in arts and community education, they aim to further their knowledge of food and agricultural systems. With a deep connection to creating access to a more sustainable future, they’ve dedicated the last serval years to gaining hands-on experience at WWOOF farms throughout the West Coast, learning skills in regenerative agriculture, no-till farming, livestock care/management, and organic vegetable and flower growing. As a future farmer, they hope to share in the collective pathway for QTBipoc farmers to live sustainably, sharing culturally relevant and accessible tools for the future.

Fia: Sophia “Fia” recently relocated to Central Maine to find her future home and start growing her aspiring business – Sunshine – an organic farm, sustainable bed & breakfast, and gathering space. Fia has been committed to WWOOFing and learning to farm since last summer, and finds it so rewarding to grow food for her community from seed to harvest. Originally from the Cleveland, OH area, Fia is happy to be making Maine her new home with her dog, Mani. She is always ready for a good hike, a delicious meal, meaningful conversation, and ice creams.
